Approximate Total Mileage: 5.5 Miles

Terrain: Hard road, gravel road, gravel path, some boggy areas, a couple of streams to cross, grass track.

Dog Walks: Scottish Highlands, Loch Clair and Loch Coulin Route:

Having parked up in the parking area as described above, cross over the A896 and walk down the  Drive/Road towards the cattle grid, you will pass the Coulin Estate Sign on your left.

Cross over the cattle-grid or go through the adjacent gate and continue ahead  over the bridge and follow on along the Drive/Road, you will then be walking along with the lovely Loch Clair on your right.

Follow the road alongside Loch Clair until its end, here you will see the road bears to the right over a bridge, do not cross the bridge but instead continue straight ahead through the gate and on to the gravel track.  On the right here is marker stating footpath, please keep to footpath.

After walking for a fair distance the gravel track bears left up hill, but at this point there is a footpath that drops down to the right, here you take the footpath down to the right, this footpath is following alongside Loch Coulin.  There is a marker here stating Scottish Rights of Way Society, Please Keep to Footpath.

After walking for a short distance you will come to a small wooden gate into a field, pass through the gate and follow the path across this field, you will soon feel as if you are bearing away from the Loch and are heading towards the white cottage on the left in distance ahead. There are some boggy areas across these fields but we managed to pick our way without too much trouble in October.

Follow the path across the field, there are a few streams to cross, but we found they were all able to be stepped-over, with the exception of one which had a plank laid over which we used to cross.  You will also pass through or around a gate across the path with no fence-line!

As you are approaching the cottage, you have a stream on your right, the path then meets a bridge over the stream on your right, cross over the bridge and follow the path down towards the cottage, it leads you down the right side of the white cottage, it then swings around the front side of the cottage.

Follow the track away from the cottage where it swings on a right handed arc and crosses over another bigger bridge, you are now heading for the white cottages ahead, you will pass over another smaller bridge.  Ignore the path to the left but simply follow the track along the left side of the cottages, and soon after it swings right handed and you will then be walking back alongside the shore of Loch Coulin.

Continue on this track alongside Loch Coulin, and you will eventually come to a cattle grid, here pass over the cattle-grid or through the adjacent gate, you will now be walking in an area with tall pines.

Following the track through between the Coulin Estate buildings, the gravel road then turns into a hard road and bears right, passing by buildings over to the left and the big white house which is Coulin Lodge over to the right, follow the road which bears left and then passes by the Gate Lodge on your  left.  You then pass over a cattle-grid or go through the adjacent gate.

Continue on this hard road, and pass over the bridge ahead.  Just after the bridge, the road bears left, on the right you will see the gravel track through the gate that you took earlier.  So here follow the drive/road to the left and you are now walking with Loch Clair on your left.

Follow this Drive/Road alongside Loch Clair, then pass over the bridge, over cattle-grid or through adjacent gate and back to your car.
