Dog Walks: Wye Valley Riverside Walk from Symonds Yat East Route:

From the Symonds Yat East Car Park, follow the road along the front of the Saracens Head Hotel, follow along this road and up the ramp at the end into the car park, Royal Lodge Bar and Restaurant is over to your left, continue straight along to the end of the car park where you will find the start of the path.

You will pass by the Forestry Green Metal Gate and the sign for Highmeadow Woods, continue ahead on the gravel path.  After walking a short distance the path splits, here you take the right fork signposted Peregrine Path.

After a short distance the wider gravel path continues straight ahead, but there is also a narrower sandy path forking down to the right allowing you to walk nearer to the River Wye, here take this narrower path alongside the river Wye.

After walking a nice stretch immediately alongside the river, the path then merges back with the wider gravel track, continue following this wider gravel track alongside the River Wye.  The path will then come to an end with 2 boulders in the centre of it.  This is a 3 way junction with a road, you continue straight ahead on the road signposted Monmouth 4.5 miles.

After a short while you will pass some wooden carved seats and rocks on your right, you enter a turning bay area with Lady Park Wood signed on the left, and the path either continues ahead or goes right over a footbridge over the River Wye, you take the path over the footbridge.  The path over the footbridge is quite steep so take care.

When you descend from the footbridge on the other side of the river, turn right and follow the gravel track ahead.  You will pass by Biblins Earth Oven on the left, you may also pass by Scouts/Brownie type camping on the right, but also the river is over on your right.

You will come to a canoe launch on your right immediately next to the river, here the gravel track does a bit of a U-turn, but a gravel path also continues straight ahead, here you continue straight ahead on the now narrower path into the wooded area.

Follow the path through the wooded area and at the top of a slight rise there is a footpath way-marker here on your left signing you down to the right, here you need to take the stony path down to the right, not the earth path left up the hill,.

As the path drops down into the dip passing another marker sign on your left, it rises up again bearing slightly left, just continue on the path.  You will then come to a wooden barrier, pass around the edge of it and continue on the path.

The path then emerges from the wood next to some garage type buildings on your right, and the cream house of Holly Tree House on your left, continue on ahead.  At the end of the gravel track it meets a tarmac road.  At this junction you turn right and follow this lane down around the corner, and continue along the lane.

At the end of the tarmac road is a turning area and some cottages on your right, and a gravel road continues ahead, you continue ahead on the gravel road.  You continue on and you will come to the white dwelling of Melrose Cottage on your left, and just in front of Melrose Cottage door is a right turning down some steps to Symonds Yat East via Ferry East.

Walk down to the edge of the river, and here on the left you will find a seat where you can sit and wait.  This is the area you wait in and the ferry should come over and collect you.

Wye Valley Riverside Walk from Symonds Yat is such a beautiful walk, Sarchie had such a lovely time in and out the river, and we really enjoyed the scenery, peace and tranquility, not to mention the great little Hand Ferry back across the River Wye.
