This is My Favourite Jacket of All Time!

The reason for having such a positively strong opinion for it because of its performance, and I can truly speak from experience.

False Economy – Don’t Fall Into The Same Trap:

There are a lot of jackets out there that claim to be water-proof, and wind-proof, but how many of them really are!  We have had jackets in the past that were either cheaper or lesser known branding….we regretted it!  

We have been soaked through and cold, we have tried re-water-proofing them, but nothing would work properly…..only a good replacement!

We regretted it especially when you are in the middle of nowhere and the rain really starts to pelt down and you can just feel yourself getting more and more soaked through and cold.

Truly Life-Saving:

When Georgina was taking part in Ten Tors on Dartmoor, and her Youngest Solo 3 Peaks Challenge and Youngest Solo 6 Peaks Challenge, there could be no compromise that the jacket she would have must protect her in all weather.

For her Youngest Solo 6 Peaks Challenge she would be solo climbing at the young age of 15 the 6 highest mountains across the British Isles and UK.

We were well-aware that Georgina’s Challenge should go according to plan, she is very experienced and had trained long and hard.  But equally we also knew that it could also go disaterously and dangerously wrong too!

The weather on these mountains can vary immensely from nice and warm if you are lucky, to 2 metres deep in snow, and also torrential rain.

A Jacket With Total Protection:

So I needed to make sure she was protected no matter what.  But also the jacket had to be lightweight to carry and be compact so it could be easily folded down into a ruck-sack.

One other requirement was that it had to be breathable.  The well known fact is that we do strenuous exercise we sweat.  But importantly it is what happens to that moisture that is crucial.

Georgina found the jacket to be breathable and she generally wore a proper base layer under the jacket which wicked the moisture away from directly next to her skin.

If you have a jacket that heats you up, you sweat, and if there is no breathability there, then it can be a potentially dangerous situation.

This is because when you are damp, or wet, while you are moving you are generally warm.  But when you slow down or do actually stop you can cool down extremely quickly, and this can be very risky indeed, especially if you are a long way from home.
